MEMORY VERSE: Revelation 20: 15 and whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
INTRODUCTION
Lake of fire is the final destination of sinners, which is a place of everlasting torment prepared by God for Satan and his followers such as those who refused to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour (Revelation 20: 10, 2Thessalonains 1: 8 – 9). Therefore lake of fire is the second death, after the various events on earth and the white throne judgement, death and hell will be cast into the lake fire: that does not quench (Revelation 20: 14), but the believers that are saved shall reign with Christ in eternal glory forever
THE PURPOSE OF LAKE OF FIRE
A sentence of Satan and his followers (Revelation 20: 10)
Designated reward for the beast (antichrist) and false prophets (Revelation 19: 20, Revelation 14: 10)
Punishment to the sinners (Ezekiel 18: 4, 20, John 8: 24, Mark 16: 16)
Destination for the fearful and unbelieving believers (Revelation 20: 8, Mark 8: 35, 2Timothy 2: 12b)
Reward for evil workers and wickedness (Luke 13: 3)
DESCRIPTION OF LAKE OF FIRE
It is a place of fire burning with brimstone (Revelation 19 – 20)
Gloomy and dark (2Peter 2: 4)
There would be everlasting punishment (Mathew 25: 46))
Not comfortable for life (1Thessalonians 1: 9)
A place of crying and pain (Mathew 22: 13, 25, 30)
The fire is unquenchable (Mark 9: 43)
Full of anguish and trouble (Romans 2: 9)
The fire does not reduce and the smoke ascend forever (Revelation 14: 11, Isaiah 34: 10)
CONCLUSION
Lake of fire is not an ideal place for one to be. For this reason or motive, let us serve God with all our heart while we are still on earth. As we work out our salvation with fear and trembling, remain faithful till the end, the lake of fire is far from us (Philippians 2: 12, Hebrew 10: 31, believers don’t live carelessly
