Memory verse: 1 Corinthians 14:39 wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy and forbid not to speak with tongues.

COMMENTS: Vocalization literally means a word or sound that is produced in the process of communicating. The gifts that manifest through vocalization are the diverse kinds of tongue, interpretation of tongues and prophecy.

THE DIVERSE KINDS OF TONGUES:

Tongues can be classified into two: namely Tongues of men and Angelic tongues. Tongues of men are languages spoken on earth – Acts 2:8-13, 1 Corinthians 13:1. Tongues of angels are heavenly language, 1 Corinthians 14:2, 13:1, Dan 5:25, 2 Corinthians 12:4.

INTERPRETATION OF TONGUES:

Speaking in tongues involves the human spirit and the spirit of God inter-running so that the believer communicates directly to God. This is the spirit – giving ability to understand and communicate the meaning of an utterance spoken in tongues. No one can understand a message given in tongues not until God does reveals the meaning through the gift of interpretation of tongues. Interpretation of tongues is a supernatural manifestation of interpretation through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit for the edification of the church.

Biblical examples: 1 Corinthians 14:13, Daniel 5:25

THE GIFT OF PROPHECY:

Prophecy is an inspired utterance in a known language, to edify, comfort and exhort the church. This also connotes supernatural ability of foretelling and forth telling. Prophecy literally has to do with the revealed word of God for now and about the future (1 Corinthians 14:3)

Biblical examples: Acts 2:17-18, 1 Tim. 6:3, 1 Corinthians 12:3, 1 Thessa. 5:20-21, Ephesians 4:11

CONCLUSION:

Diverse kinds of tongues during manifestation cannot be learnt and is often incomprehensible both to the speaker and the hearer (14:16). Interpretation has to do with supernatural ability to communicate the meaning of an utterance spoken in tongues. Tongues and interpretation is equivalent prophesy.
