TEXT: 1 Corinthians 12:1-8
Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 9:20 – And as for thine assess that were lost three days ago, set not thine mind on them for they are found. And of whom are the desires of Isreal? Is it not on thee and on thy father’s house?
INTRODUCTION
The gifts of the Spirit are given to believers to profit withal. They are means and instrument of power to carryout successful operation and administration of God’s work. In the book of 1 Corinthians 12:6, the bible talks about diversification of operations, but it is the same God, which worketh all in all. The word operation refers to the method used to preach the gospel, it can also be refer to the overall strategy used in taking or sending the gospel forth. These gifts are the gifts of the Holy Spirit he only gives us manifestation. The Holy Spirit manifests through variety of spiritual gift given to believers, these manifestations are intended for the building and sanctification of the church, Spiritual gift reveals the attributes of the Holy Spirit as God, The gift are divided into 3 segments and each segment proves God’s omnipotence, omniscience and omnipresence.
ATTRIBUTES OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS.
- Omnipotent (power Gifts): Gift of healing, faith and working of miracles.
- Omniscient (Revealing gifts): Word of knowledge, word of wisdom and discerning of spirits
- Omnipresent (Vocal gifts): Gifts of tongues, interpretation of tongues and prophecy.
- Revelation gifts is the ability (through the Holy Spirit) to reveal something that has been in secret or only known by the person the revelation is given, it considered to be a sign or message from God. Under this gift we have word of knowledge, word of wisdom and discerning of spirit.
THE GIFT OF THE WORD OF KNOWLEDGE:
The gift of the word of knowledge refers only to a portion of God’s knowledge that God wants to reveal. Word of knowledge cannot be studied or learned. This knowledge reveals the hidden truth of things, matters and solves problems at a certain time and place to the glory of God.
Biblical examples: 1 Samuel 9:20. 2 Kings 6:8-12, Acts 5:3-4
WORD OF WISDOM:
The word of wisdom is the gift of the Holy Spirit, given supernaturally to believers who through this wisdom wonderfully solves problems in difficult circumstances and thereby gives glory to God. The bible calls it the gift of word of wisdom. God manifest the word of wisdom in accordance with a specific need and in a time and place for his glory.
Biblical examples: 1 Kings 3:16-28, Luke 21:12-15, John 8:4-5
DISCERNING OF SPIRIT:
The gift of discernment of spirit is a supernatural gift given to believers to enable them discern spirit. The book 1 Kings 22 relates a scene where the gift of discernment wonderfully manifested. In this chapter, prophet Macaiah calmly concluded that the prophecies of more than four hundred prophecies came from the lying spirit (verse 19-23).
Biblical examples: Mathew 16:15-17, 16:22-23. Acts 16:16-18, 1 John 4:1
CONCLUSION:
Revelation gifts are gift given to us when need arises, when we meet an insurmountable barrier. This gift enables us to overcome difficulties and solve problems. The Holy Spirit possesses this gift and He manifests it from time to time, as he will through believers as vessels.
