TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3: 8 – 14
MEMORY VERSE: JOHN 8: 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, if you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed.
INTRODUCTION
A disciple is not just a student but he also practices all he learns from his master. A true disciple is one who continues in the word of Christ: (John 8: 31) to continue means, to hear and keep hearing, doing what is herd and to make the word of God a lifestyle. Hence a disciple is God’s ideal church. A Christians is a disciple who has forsaken the world and all its sinful pleasure; studied the nature of the master (Jesus) and confounding his lifestyle it.
LESSON: WHO IS A CHRISTIAN
- A born again child of God (John 3: 3)
- One who has forsaken the world (1 John 2: 15 – 17, James 4: 4)
- One living a righteous and holy life (Hebrew 12: 14)
- One exhorting the word of God above his personal decision (1Timothy 1: 8 – 14, Titus 1: 9, Mathew 10: 31 – 33, mark 8: 36 – 38)
- One that trembles at God’s word (2Timothy 1: 13 – 14, John 15: 7, Psalm 66: 8 – 9)
- One that dedicates himself and all he has to God (Luke 14: 25 – 33, 2Timothy 3: 10 – 12)
- One that loves the brethren (1 John 4: 11 – 14, James 2: 14 – 16)
- One that is willing to lay down his life for his faith (Mathew 16: 24 – 27, Act 14: 22)
CONCLUSION
Discipleship has a cost and lifestyle. The cry of a true disciple is that I may know him and conform to his image. The lifestyle of a disciple must reflect, the word, believe and nature of the master. Thus the life of Christ must be reflected in our daily living if we are His disciples.
